Myofascial Release

Mobility of fascia tissue.

Fascia is a body system of dense tissue which is continuous from head to toe, and has an appearance similar to a spider's web or a sweater. Myofascial Release is a manual technique where constant pressure is applied to myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore movement.

Normally, fascia stretches and moves without restriction. Trauma, scarring, inflammation, habitual movement patterns and postures can trigger tightness and restrictions in the system. The body loses its adaptability to stresses put upon it. The cumulative effects often lead to pain, restricted motion, and limited function.

John F. Barnes, PT developed myofascial release therapy. This innovative and effective whole-body approach for the evaluation and treatment of pain and dysfunction was derived through his 44 years of experience and creative insight. He is an internationally recognized therapist, lecturer and author. He is the President and Director of the Myofascial Release Treatment Centers and National Myofascial Release Seminars located in Paoli, Pennsylvania, and Sedona, Arizona.
